1st State Level Selection Test (SLST), 2025 for Recruitment of Non-Teaching Staff (Clerk & Group D)

The West Bengal Central School Service Commission (WBCSSC) invites online applications for filling up posts of Non-Teaching Staff (Clerk and Group D) in recognized Government Aided/Sponsored Schools in West Bengal, in compliance with the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court in Civil Appeal No. 4800 of 2024 dated 3rd April, 2025.

Group D

5,488 posts. Category-wise and region-wise details to be published on the official website.

Total Non-Teaching Staff

8,477 posts across Clerk and Group D in recognized Government Aided/Sponsored Schools. Detailed breakup as per NTS Rules, 2025.

Vacancy position is indicative; final details will be published on WBCSSC official website before the process commences.

Pay & Benefits

Pay Scale

As per extant State Government norms (to be as per the final appointment order of the concerned appointing authority).

Other Benefits

Allowances, pension, and other benefits as applicable under West Bengal School Service Commission rules, NTS Rules, 2025, and relevant State Government guidelines.

Medium of Instruction

Candidates must have mandatorily passed the language which is the medium of instruction in the school concerned, as per NTS Rules, 2025.

Eligibility Criteria (as on 01.01.2025)

Age Limit

Minimum 18 years and maximum 40 years. Relaxations: SC/ST: +5 years, OBC: +3 years, PH: +8 years. Additional relaxations as per Hon’ble Supreme Court order in Civil Appeal No. 4800 of 2024 dated 3rd April, 2025.

Clerk (Group C)

Essential: Passed School Final (Madhyamik) or its equivalent or old HS in lieu of School Final (Madhyamik) or its equivalent before the last date of receiving online application.

Group D

Essential: Passed Class VIII from any school recognized/affiliated by Board/Council or equivalent before the last date of receiving online application. For Clerk (HS): Passed HS or its equivalent before last date.

Note: Qualifications to be counted on last date of online application. Certificates from competent authorities of only the Government of West Bengal shall be treated as valid for SC/ST/OBC/PH/EWS categories. Candidates from other states will be treated as General. Only citizens of India are eligible. Candidates identified as โ€œtaintedโ€ in the Supreme Court order are not eligible.

Mode of Selection

For Clerk (Group C)

Written Examination โ†’ Evaluation of Academic Performance & Prior Similar Experience โ†’ Interview (including typing-cum-computer proficiency test) strictly in accordance with NTS Rules, 2025 merit score category-wise and Region-wise.

For Group D

Written Examination โ†’ Evaluation of Prior Similar Experience โ†’ Interview in the manner specified in Schedule II of the Rules.

Note: Question papers set in English and Bengali; candidates allowed to use one medium and only one Region for each post. OMR/CBT based; each question carries one mark with only one correct option; no negative marking. Omission/error in OMR may lead to non-evaluation and rejection.

Excluding Bank/Other payment-related charges. Payment through online mode only. No other charges applicable. Incomplete/wrong applications to be rejected at any stage.

How to Apply & Important Notes

  • Applications accepted online only via www.westbengalssc.com; no other mode allowed.
  • Register/Login, fill form carefully, upload documents, pay fee, and submit. Retain confirmation.
  • Multiple applications: Only last application ID entertained; others rejected.
  • No rectification after submission; ensure details (e.g., Name, DOB from Madhyamik certificate) are correct.
  • Candidates must satisfy eligibility before applying; verification up to final counselling by recommending authority.
  • No TA/DA for exam/interview. Candidates not complying with instructions liable to rejection.

Preparation of Panel, Merit List & Waiting List

(i) After evaluation, WBCSSC shall prepare and publish on website the list of candidates to be called for interview (along with syllabus upload).

(ii) Merit Lists prepared Region-wise, medium-wise, gender-wise, category-wise based on written marks, academic evaluation (for Clerk), applicable tests, personality score (for Clerk), experience, and computer typing test (for Clerk) as per NTS Rules, 2025.

(iii) Panels equal to vacancies and Waiting Lists (equal to vacancies for remaining meritorious candidates) published medium-wise, gender-wise, category-wise, Region-wise.

Panels and lists published on WBCSSC website and sent to Board of Secondary Education, Regional Commissions, and Directorate of School Education.

Validity: Each panel and waiting list valid for 1 year from first counselling date; extendable up to 6 months with State Government approval.
