Railway NTPC 2025: Approval for 5,817 Graduate + 3,058 Under-Graduate Vacancies

The Railway Board, Ministry of Railways has approved 8,875 vacancies for Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) for notification in 2025. Centralized Employment Notice (CEN) to be issued by Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs). This is an internal approval; full recruitment details including eligibility, exam dates, and application process will be in the forthcoming CEN.

Pay & Benefits

Pay Levels

As per 7th CPC: Level 2 (₹19,900–₹63,200), Level 3 (₹21,700–₹69,100), Level 4 (₹25,500–₹81,100), Level 5 (₹29,200–₹92,300), Level 6 (₹35,400–₹1,12,400).

Other Benefits

DA, HRA, Transport Allowance, Medical facilities, Pension under NPS, and other railway perks as applicable.

Eligibility Criteria

Age Limit

18-33 years (Graduate posts), 18-30 years (Under-Graduate posts). Relaxations for SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen as per rules. Details in CEN.

NTPC (Graduate)

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent from recognized university. Specific posts may require additional qualifications (e.g., Commerce for Accounts posts).

NTPC (Under-Graduate)

12th (+2 stage) or equivalent with 50% marks. Typing proficiency for clerical posts.

Nationality: Indian citizens. Detailed eligibility, including medical standards and reservations, to be specified in CEN. Candidates must meet criteria as on closing date.

Mode of Selection

CBT Stage I

Screening test: 100 MCQs (General Awareness 40, Mathematics 30, General Intelligence & Reasoning 30). 90 minutes; negative marking 1/3rd.

CBT Stage II

Main exam: Part A (120 MCQs, 100 marks) + Part B (50 MCQs, 120 marks, qualifying). 90 + 60 minutes; negative marking.

Document Verification & Medical Exam after CBT II. Typing Skill Test for clerical posts. Final merit based on CBT II normalized scores. Details in CEN.

Syllabus Overview

CBT I & II (Common)

  • General Awareness: Current Events, History, Geography, Polity, Economy, Science, Railways.
  • Mathematics: Number System, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM/HCF, Ratio, Percentage, Mensuration, Time/Work, SI/CI, Profit/Loss, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra.
  • General Intelligence & Reasoning: Analogies, Coding-Decoding, Puzzles, Series, Blood Relations, Syllogism, Venn Diagrams, Statement-Conclusion.

CBT II Part B (Qualifying)

  • General Science: Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences (10+2 level).
  • General Awareness & Current Affairs (as above).
  • Mathematics & Reasoning (basic level).

*Detailed syllabus in CEN. Negative marking applies. Prepare for computer-based mode.

Application Fee & How to Apply

Application Fee (Expected, as per previous)

  • General/OBC/EWS: ₹500/- (₹400 exam fee + ₹100 processing; ₹400 refunded on appearing)
  • SC/ST/PwBD/Ex-Servicemen/Female/Transgender/Minorities/EBC: ₹250/- (₹100 processing fee only)

Online payment via net banking/credit/debit card/UPI. Exact fees in CEN.

Important Notes

  • Apply online only via regional RRB websites after CEN release; single application for all posts/zones.
  • Upload photo, signature, and documents as specified; keep originals for verification.
  • Multiple applications invalid; only last one considered. No age relaxation beyond rules.
  • Final vacancies subject to indent finalization; reservation as per Govt. norms.
  • Medical fitness mandatory; disputes under railway jurisdiction. No TA/DA for exam.
